Volumetric Weight Calculator
Estimate dimensional weight for air freight, courier and parcels.
What is volumetric weight?
It is a pricing measurement based on shipment space.
Common formula
Volumetric Weight = L × W × H ÷ Divisor
Use the divisor specified by your carrier.
Dimensional weight depends on the carrier
Volumetric weight converts package volume into a comparable weight using a divisor or factor. Air cargo, express couriers and postal services may use different divisors, units and rounding rules, so the number should be treated as an estimate until checked against the provider tariff.
Actual weight vs volumetric weight
Many carriers compare actual scale weight with volumetric weight and charge using the higher value. Reducing empty package space can therefore lower chargeable weight even when the physical product weight does not change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use 5000 or 6000?
Use the divisor specified by your carrier or freight contract.
Why do different couriers give different volumetric weights?
Carriers can use different dimensional divisors, unit conventions and rounding policies.
Is volumetric weight the same as actual weight?
No. Actual weight is measured on a scale, while volumetric weight is calculated from package dimensions.
