What is CBM?

CBM means cubic meter and is a standard volume measurement used in freight and logistics.

CBM formula

CBM = Length × Width × Height × Quantity

Example

A carton measuring 60 cm × 40 cm × 30 cm is 0.072 m³. Ten cartons occupy 0.72 CBM.

CBM for cartons and freight

CBM means cubic meters and represents physical cargo volume. Convert carton dimensions to meters, multiply length by width by height, then multiply by the number of cartons. If different carton sizes are used, calculate each group separately and add the volumes.

CBM is not chargeable weight

Sea freight, air freight and couriers can price shipments using different rules. CBM describes volume, while chargeable weight may compare actual weight with a dimensional or volumetric weight formula. Always check the carrier or forwarder formula before estimating a final freight charge.
