Best input shape for JSON to CSV

CSV is a flat table, so the easiest JSON input is an array of objects whose objects share similar keys. Object keys become column headers and each object becomes a row.

CSV escaping matters

Values containing commas, quotation marks or line breaks must be quoted correctly. Double quotation marks inside a quoted CSV field are escaped by doubling them.

Nested JSON needs a decision

Nested objects and arrays do not naturally fit a flat CSV cell. A converter may serialize them as JSON text, flatten their keys, or require manual mapping. Choose the approach that matches the destination system.

Example workflow

Validate the JSON first, convert it, then open the CSV in the target spreadsheet or system and confirm that headers and special characters were preserved.
